Page Tools

Tony Carnerie was born in Korea and immigrated to the US as a child. He has many years of ESL teaching and teacher-training experience. His areas of expertise include linguistics, listening, reading instruction and American culture. Tony's interest in ESL education began while he was majoring in Linguistics at San Diego State University.

After earning his Bachelor’s degree in 1996, he taught at various private and public universities in San Diego before attaining a Master’s degree in TESOL from United States International University in 1997. After receiving his graduate degree, he worked as an ESL instructor and Program Coordinator. In addition to teaching ESL at UCSD's English Language Institute, Tony has also been a teacher trainer at Extension. He believes that teaching in a relaxed classroom atmosphere and integrating American culture and history are essential components for a complete education in ESL. Most recently, Tony has created, revised, coordinated, and helped to implement many computer-assisted English language applications at the English Language Institute's language lab.
